Obituary of Richard Addison


Memorial services for Richard Earl Addison will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Epting Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epting Memorial United Methodist Church General Improvement Fund or Bus Fund, 1401 Milligan St., Newberry, SC 29108.Mr. Addison, 83, died April 5, 2006. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Dewey Sease Addison and Dezaree Young Addison Addy. Mr. Addison was retired from the S.C. Highway Department. He was a World War II Navy veteran, having served on the LST 346 as a chief Petty Officer Signalman, and participated in D. Day at Normandy. In 2003, he was awarded the Jubilee of Liberty Medal more than 50 years after his participation in what was described as America's greatest military victory. He was a member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Addison was a member of Amity Lodge #87 AFM and the Hejaz Temple. He was a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Florence Shealy Addision; daughters, Susan (Gary) Bouknight of Newberry and Crystal (Mike) Greenway of Simpsonville; sisters, Barbara Addy Stutts of Newberry, and Mary Ann Addy Kirby of Gastonia, N.C.; grandchildren, Benjamin Earl Bouknight, Aaron Addison Bouknight, Addison Michael "Buck" Greenway, and Noah Will Greenway; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea Bouknight, Cody Bouknight, Ryan Bouknight and Cole Bouknight. Mr. Addison was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Addy Molden; and a stepbrother, Frank Addy.www.mcswainevans.com.
