Obituary of Peter-Francis Owen

OWEN, Peter Francis 1921 2006 Peter passed away peacefully September 11, 2006 surrounded by family. Born December 19, 1921, Dartford, Bexley, U.K. Peter joined the British War effort in 1940; a fresh graduate from Sandhurst Military College. Injured; a well decorated and respected lieutenant on February 27, 1945 in western Europe. Peter earned a B.A. and M.A. degrees from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, U.K., before being swept off his feet by a young vibrant Swiss aux pair girl, Gertrud Olga Tschumi. Upon marrying in 1953, they embarked on an adventure to Canada. With a pregnant wife, and realizing sheep herding wasn't progressive, Peter returned to university (U.B.C.), ultimately earning a masters degree in Education and Administration. Peter taught in Dawson Creek from 1955-61, before being appointed principal at George Bonner Junior Secondary in Mill Bay. He guided Bonner for sixteen years before serving in various supervisory positions in District 65 until retirement in 1987. During his time in the Cowichan Valley, Peter was heavily involved with and one of the founding members of the Cowichan Rugby Club. He would very much appreciate if the club could win all division titles this year. Peter is survived by his loving wife Trudi, his children Robert, Linda, David, Paul and his seven delightful grandchildren, Dylan, Leah, Stewart, Francis, Michelle, Natalie and Jessie. There will be a memorial service October 7, 2006 at 2 p.m., St. John the Baptist Church, Cobble Hill. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Cowichan Rugby Club or a charity of one's choice. Interment of Ashes will be after the service, family only.
