Obituary of Peter-E. Orlando

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Peter E. Orlando, a Lowell native and Marine lance corporal, died accidentally, Saturday, July 20, when a Humvee he was riding overturned during a military training exercise at Camp Lejeune. He was 20.He was born in Lowell on Aug. 4, 1981, a son of Theresa A. (Plaistek) Orlando of Lowell, and Edward Orlando, who resides in New Hampshire. He received his early education in the St. Stanislaus School in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School in 2000.Mr. Orlando, who had resided in the city's Centralville neighborhood, served in U.S. Marine Corps for the past two years as a member of the Weapons Company 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. He was assigned to the Operation Enduring Freedom mission, attached to a combined anti-armor platoon for which he was responsible for heavy machine guns. He had been stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Bahrain, Afghanistan. He was currently stationed in North Carolina at Camp Lejeune.He was a communicant of the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. He was active politically and volunteered with several election campaigns while living in Lowell.In addition to his parents, he is survived by 10 brothers and sisters, Lisa and her husband Christopher Marcotte, Joseph Orlando, all of Chelmsford , Karyn Baldino of Ayer, Christine Orlando of Hudson, N.H., Heidi, Allyson, Maria and Sara Orlando, all of Lowell, Gino Orlando and his wife Anne Marie of Dracut, and Anthony Orlando of Warwick, R.I.He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Helen Plaistek of Pelham.; his paternal grandfather, Angelo Orlando of Methuen; two nieces, Jessica and Borany; eight nephews, Donny Jr., Charlie, Zachary, Nicholas, Joseph Jr., Danny, Patrick and Anthony Jr.. He also leaves friends, Carmen and Roger Frechette, and his special friend, Mindy Cruz, all of Lowell; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.
