Obituary of Mrs. -Marilyn-Jeanne Day


Bartow - Mrs. Marilyn Day passed away Saturday, 9/12/2009, at Bartow Regional Medical Center. Born 5/25/1932, in Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Day was a longtime resident of the Washington, D.C., area where she spent much of the turbulent '60s. She went back to school as an adult and earned her degree in nursing. After becoming a registered nurse, in 1977, she worked several years with the terminally ill. After leaving nursing, she retrained to work on computers and went to work with the Federal Government from which she retired in 1994. In 2000, she moved to Beverly Hills, FL, where she started her third career as a political activist. She was deeply committed and concerned for both the welfare of her community and the United States military serving here and abroad. She served as the vice chair of the Citrus County Democratic Executive Committee from 2004-2008. Ms. Day was a tireless champion for what she thought was right as evidenced by her many letters to the editor of the Citrus County Chronicle from 2001-2009. Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Herbert Thomas Day. She is survived by daughters; Dell Fitzgerald Petersen of San Francisco, CA, Stephanie Hoyt of Portsmouth, VA, and Jeannie Maria Frawley of Fort Mill, SC, sons; John J. Frawley of Miami, FL, and Christopher Day of Bartow, FL, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted in her honor Thursday, 9/17/2009, at 7 pm at The Naturecoast Unitarian Universalist Church at 7633 North Florida Avenue in Citrus Springs. Arrangements under the care of Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Lakeland.
