Obituary of Michael C. Carney

of Fitchburg, retired plumber/pipe fitter; 62 FITCHBURG Michael C. Carney, 62, of Fitchburg, died Monday, December 7th, at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston with his family at his side. He laid his head in the arms of the Lord, after a year long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (M.D.S), a cancer of the bone and blood.Mr. Carney was born in Fitchburg, on October 3, 1947, a son of the late George and Florence (Spooner)Carney, and had resided in Westminster for many years before moving to Fitchburg.Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra M. (Bedard) Carney of Fitchburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Kerry Ann and Thomas Smith of Shrewsbury; and his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan M. and Christine M. Carney of Ashburnham, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Tomasetti of Atascadero, California, Kathleen and John Lanata of Sandwich, MA; and his five grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Smith, Kinsale, Jack and Michael Carney; and several nieces and nephews.Mike was a retired plumber and pipefitter for over 30 years and was a proud member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 4 in Worcester.Mr. Carney was a communicant of Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church in Fitchburg. He enjoyed traveling throughout the country in his RV with his wife, Sandra, and belonged to the Bounders America Association. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips who affectionately called him "PA". He also enjoyed hunting.CARNEY A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, December 12 at the Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, 118 Theresa St., Fitchburg.
