RICHMOND - Mary Josephine Amelia Chase Bradshaw Andrews, 87, died Feb. 22, 2011, in Rutland.She was born June 11, 1923, in Bountiful, Utah, the daughter of Josephine (Chase) and Merrill Crary Bradshaw. She received a bachelor's degree in music from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan., completed postgraduate work in music at Columbia University and the Juilliard School in New York City, and obtained a master of science degree in counseling from St. Michael's College and an associate degree in paralegal studies from Woodbury College.Mrs. Andrews was an organist at many area churches, a choir director for many years at Richmond Congregational Church and a music teacher at local elementary and secondary schools. She retired from the state of Vermont after many years as a social worker and vocational rehabilitation counselor and was later involved with the Foster Grandparents program. She was also a reading tutor at Pine Ridge School. She and her husband operated Andrews Farm in Richmond for many years.She served on Richmond's Conservation Commission, Richmond Free Library Board, as town auditor and with Richmond Rescue. She and her husband organized and hosted the original Richmond Farmers' Market. They worked to provide the period-appropriate organ for Old Round Church and initiated the summer public concert series there.She enjoyed rug hooking and was a member of Richmond Happy Hookers, as well as the Mayflower Society and Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as state regent.Survivors include four daughters, Jennifer Gilligan of Richmond, Amelia Wagner of Norwich, Catherine Couture of Thornton, Colo., and Abigail Allard of North Clarendon; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Earl; many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Everett B. Andrews, in 2010 and four brothers.The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 (today), at the Church of the Latter Day Saints, 400 Swift St., South Burlington, with a reception following at the Andrews Farm, 1147 East Main St., Richmond.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richmond Meals on Wheels, in care of Champlain Valley Agency on Aging; the Foster Grandparent Program; Richmond Free Library; Vermont Farm Bureau; or the charity of your choice.View the guest book at www.rutlandherald.com/ obits.
