Obituary of Marion-Elizabeth-Sanchez Whitehead

Richmond, Va. - Marion Elizabeth Sanchez Whitehead, 91, of Richmond, Va., peacefully passed away at her home Monday, May 4, 2009. She was born May 2, 1918, raised in Barwick, Ga., and graduated from the University of Georgia, where she met and married her husband, Edward Winston Whitehead of Athens. They lived in Georgia, Alabama and Florida during their 54 years together. Retiring to Georgia, they lived at Twin Gables on Hog Mountain Road, Bogart, Ga.Following the death of her husband in 1994, she moved to Richmond where she lived with her daughter, Chi Chi W. Huff; and son-in-law, David. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. S.E. Sanchez Sr. of Barwick, Ga.; one brother, Dr. Simeon E. Sanchez Jr.; three sisters, Kathryn S. Chandler, Charlotte S. Maddox and Frances C. Sanchez; and an infant son, Edward Winston Whitehead Jr.She is also survived by one son, Edward Sanchez Whitehead (Edwina) of Mount Airy, N.C.; three grandchildren, Gary D. Huff (Carolyn) of Midlothian, Va., Keri W. Campbell (John) of Carrollton, Texas, and Edward Sanchez Whitehead II of Nashville, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Clara and Natalie Huff and Will and Meghan Campbell.Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Ga., at a later date.Memorials may be made to the Barwick United Methodist Church, 2090 S. Cedar St., Barwick, GA 31720, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
