HAMMOND-MAE LORRAINE Peacefully, on November 30, 2008, Mae passed away at the Pioneer Village Nursing Home. Predeceased by son Gordon in 1997, and husband Leslie in 1998, she is survived by son Bob (Hattie and Jason), daughter Carolyn (Fred) Townley-Smith, son Freddy, daughter-in-law Helen Hammond, grandchildren Shelley (Blair) Case, Heather (Diane), Nancy (Martin), and Susan Hammond, Robert (Val), Kimberly, and Paul (Kerry) Townley-Smith, also survived by great-grandchildren Erin Case, Jennifer Case, Zachery, Keeley, Parker, Emma, Simon, Isabelle, Thomas, and William Townley-Smith. Mae was born in Lisbon, North Dakota in 1912, immigrating to Canada in her early childhood years, and was raised in Pennant, SK. After meeting and marrying Les, they moved to Regina, where they resided for the rest of their lives. Mae was an accomplished musician, she played the piano and organ, and also had a beautiful singing voice. This led her to Sweet Adelines, many church choirs, and in later years, the Happy Entertainers. She was active in church prayer groups, sewing clubs, bridge clubs, and many others, always happily sharing her talents and the gift of music. While her husband Leslie was alderman and Mayor for the City of Regina, Mae was close by his side, speaking and participating in city activities. Both Mae and husband Leslie were active in promoting and supporting the City of Regina. They could be seen at any and all major city functions, they were both an integral part of city life. Mae enjoyed the support of her extended family members in Swift Current and Elrose, thanks to the many friends and relatives who supported her over the years. Everywhere she went, she made friends, she was well-loved by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pioneer Village, who provided excellent care over her eleven years spent in that facility. Prayers and visitation will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 5:00 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. A celebration of Mae's life will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in Heritage Alliance Church, 3475 Hilllsdale Street, Regina. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memoriam, to Regina Pioneer Village, Recreation Dept., 430 Pioneer Drive, Regina S4T 6L8.
