Mildred Ester Hawes, 91, of Daytona Beach, passed away at her residence on August 30, 2010. She was born in Unionville, Connecticut on February 12, 1919 and came to Florida in 1949. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and an avid bowler. She enjoyed traveling, having conversations with friends, gardening, and was an avid reader. She has been a member of the Calvary Christian Baptist Church since 1949. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Wendell E. Hawes and two sons, Richard A. Hawes and Russell Hawes and her dear friend, Candler Poole. She is survived by her son, Wendell W. Hawes and daughter-in-law, Betty Hawes, who were her caregivers for several years; a sister, Shirley Hiser; and brother, William Canfield, both of Connecticut. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Elliott Hawes, Alex Hawes, Roger Hawes, Jennifer Hawes and Stephanie Wooley. She had six great-grandchildren, Victoria Hawes, Holly, Julia, Benjamin, Ethan and Zachary Wooley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Vitas Hospice, 2381 Mason Ave., Daytona Beach, FL or the American Lung Association. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 1 pm at the Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach. Services are to be officiated by the Reverend Pamela Stewart, Chaplain with Vitas Hospice.
