City of BartowHOMELAND -- Mr. Leon Douglas "Doug" Johnson of Homeland died of cancer Thursday (July 15, 2004) at his home. He was 61.Born Feb. 17, 1943, in Lowry, Ala., he came to this area in 1970. He was an air conditioner technician for the City of Bartow. He was owner/operator of Johnson Maintenance in Bartow. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Homeland Baptist Church.Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Johnson, Homeland; mother, Ruth King, Kinston, Ala.; daughter, Liz Johnson, Ala.; sons, Bobby Johnson and Gary Johnson, both of Alabama; stepdaughter, Lisa Jackson, Bartow; stepsons, Harold Hatfield, Jr., Alturas, James Hartfield and Anthony Hartfield, both of Bartow; brothers, James Johnson, Lakeland, Bobby King and Donny King, both of Kinston, Ala.; sisters, Geraldine Fleming and Betty Nolin, both of Kinston, Ala., Judy Hart and Janice Williamson, Opp, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 E. Main St., Bartow. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, 115 S. Missouri Ave., Suite 500, Lakeland, 33815.
