Obituary of Joyce-Simms James

JAMES Joyce (Simms) James, age 75, of West Palm Beach, Fla., previously of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. She was born in St. Mary, Jamaica on February 10, 1935. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Hubert G. James of West Palm Beach, Fla. and her six daughters, Sonia M. Cunningham-Cork of Bridgeport, Audrey E. James, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Donna E. James, of Bowie, Md., Vivien A. (and Trevor) Small, Lorna Y. James-Rodriguez and Joy E. James, all of Bridgeport; two brothers, Vivian Green of Jamaica, and Sydney (and Ella) Simms of New York. She also leaves five grandchildren, Daimian Rae Cork, Christopher James Rodriguez, Trevor 'Al' Small II, Andrew Simms Rodriguez and Angelee E. Small. A special niece, Michelle Bailey and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Joyce loved to travel, cook, tend to her garden and sing. She was an avid seamstress and worked for many years at Davidsons Fabrics in downtown Bridgeport, until she retired to West Palm Beach in 2003. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the medical personnel that cared for Joyce during her illness. Funeral services will be Saturday (November 20) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line). The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow immediately at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave., Bridgeport.
