John L. Field passed on the 31st August after a long struggle with Parkinson's. His courage and resolve was a lesson to all his friends. John was born in India, the son of Sir David and Lady Field. He attended Wellington School in England and took degrees at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University (1963) and UBC in Library Science (1968). John had a distinguished long career in education teaching at several schools and universities various courses in English to foreign students and Canadian Army officer in training at Royal Roads. John was a member of several organizations including the B.C. Debate and Speech Association, B.C. English Teachers' Association and B.C. TEAL Association. Those of us who knew him admired his loyalty and kindnesses. He was an avid reader, a lover of classical and operatic music. He played the piano and spoke European and Asian languages. Above all he was a world traveler who combined experiences with several cultures as well as hiking and climbing on three continents. John leaves behind many friends and family in Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
