Obituary of Jean-Lucien-Fernand Nobert

NOBERT, Jean Lucien Fernand (Fern)Captain (retired)January 6, 1920 - May 1, 2014Born in Drummondville, Quebec, formerly of Gatineau, Quebec and St. Raymond, Quebec. Most recently residing in Flamborough, Ontario. Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Hilda Ellen Norris. He leaves his daughter Pamela Young (Christopher) and his two treasures, granddaughters Gillian and Rachael. Predeceased by parents Alexandre Nobert and Marguerite Caya; and brothers Paul and Marcel. He leaves his sisters Betty, Yolande, Giselle, Helene and Louise and brother Guy. Fern had an extensive career in the pulp and paper sector in Quebec and New Brunswick, including mills in Gatineau, LaTuque, New Richmond, Matane, Trois Rivieres, Dalhousie and St. Raymond. A WWII veteran, Fern was a member of the CANLOAN program and served overseas with the British Army in the King's Own Scottish Borders regiment. An avid fisherman, bridge player and Montreal Canadians fan, Fern loved most of all spending time at his cottage in LaTuque, Quebec. He will be acutely missed by his daughter Pamela, son-in-law Chris, and granddaughters Gillian and Rachael, and extended family and friends. Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 9 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Fern loved music and took great pleasure in recent years from private concerts given by his granddaughters as they studied the cello. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Suzuki String School of Guelph Endowment Fund would be appreciated, so that other grandparents can also share in the gift of music.
