Jean Kobey Simms was born November 24,1919, in Craig, Colorado, the daughter of Hazel and Harold Kobey. She had a younger brother, Hal. After living for many years in Aspen, Colorado, she moved to Florida and attended Florida State College for Women. A beauty queen, she was chosen 1941 Miss Orlando and 1941 Florida Orange Bowl Queen. She was a photographic and runway model and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she joined Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines and married Edward Taylor Simms, a test pilot, in 1942. They had three daughters, Marcia, Carol and Laura. They moved from Texas to La Jolla in 1952. She was a member of Assistance League of Greater San Diego for approximately forty years, a member of D.A.R., served on the La Jolla Town Council, was active in Tri Delta, played tennis until she was eighty years old and enjoyed bridge. Jean is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Richard) Binkert, their two sons, Brian and David, and daughter, Carol (Bob) Gingery. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 17th at 2:00 P.M. at La Jolla Presbyterian Church, 7715 Draper Avenue, La Jolla.
