JACKSON James Alan Born March 9, 1920 in Estuary, Saskatchewan and died on May 22, 2008 in Vancouver. The Venerable Archdeacon J. Alan Jackson is survived by his brother Edward and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. His parents, William and Dorothy Jackson, his sisters Mildred, Dorothy, Margaret, Helen and his brothers Harold, Charles and Stanley predeceased him. Alan attended Notre Dame College and St. Chad's College in Regina. He was admitted to the priesthood on June 19, 1944 and first served in the Diocese of Qu'Appelle. He later joined the Brotherhood of St. Francis of Assissi. After Alan moved to British Columbia he served as a priest in Winfield and Oyama, as the Anglican Chaplain at UBC, in a shared ministry at Grand Forks and Christina Lake, as the Dean of the Cathedral in Nelson and finally as a priest in Oliver. After his retirement Alan was included as one of the honorary clergy at St. Mary's Kerrisdale in Vancouver. Alan made many contributions to the understanding of the arts within the communities he served and to assisting the poor and disadvantaged, including those afflicted with blindness. The funeral will be held at St. Mary's Kerrisdale 2490 West 37 Ave (37th and Larch) on Tuesday, May 27 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, Alan requested that donations be made to Eyesight lnternational. (Canada) at #2, 252 East 1st Street, North Vancouver, B.C. V7L 1B3.
