Obituary of John-Douglas Gale

JOHN DOUGLAS GALE - SHELDON SPRINGS - John Douglas Gale, age 91 years, a lifelong resident, died early Monday morning, Oct. 22, 2012, at his Sheldon Springs home. Born In St. Albans on Oct. 11, 1921, he was the son of the late John A. and Gertrude E. (McBride) Gale. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans, in 1942 and was married to Catherine Lapan, who predeceased him in 1950. On March 27, 1951, he married the former Theresa Ferland, who predeceased him on Nov. 22, 2004, following 53 years of marriage. Mr. Gale leaves his five children, Paula Bennett and husband, Alan, of Isle La Motte, JoAnn Messier and husband, Gerald, of St. Albans Town, Raymond Gale of Highgate, Thomas Gale and companion, Robin Kelley, of Sheldon and Patricia Gale of Sheldon Springs; grandchildren, Shawn Bennett and wife, Carletta, Jeffery Bennett, Brian Messier and wife, Nicole, Nicole Gallagher and husband, Ben, Kenneth and Jolene Menard, John and Mary Gale, Justin Gale and companion, Tracey Johnston, Lisa Dragon, Jamie Hoburn and Jessie Kelley. Also surviving is his sister, Marguerite "Meg" Horton of Newport; sister-in-law, Theresa Gale of Sheldon Springs; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Catherine, and his wife, Theresa, Mr. Gale was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph; brother, Robert Gale; and brother-in-law, Frank Horton. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. from St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 117 Shawville Rd., Sheldon Springs. Father Roger L. Charbonneau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Gale family lot in St. Anthony Cemetery.
