Obituary of Hugh Watkins

HUGH (BEECH) WATKINS Hugh (Beech) Watkins was born on January 24, 1921 to the late Myster and Julia Watkins in Hatchachebee, AL. His wife and partner for life was the late Louise (Pitts) Watkins. Mr. Watkins was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church until his health failed. He was a member of the male chorus and a Sunday school student. He retired from Inland Steel Co. in 1971 and was a 25 Year Club member. Hugh leaves to mourn one stepson, Anthony (June Florence) Kennedy of East Chicago; three nephews: Comer (Mabel) Watkins of Sacramento, CA, Rev. Wardell (Eugenia) Watkins of East Chicago, and Anderson (Georgiana) Watkins of Fort Wayne, IN; three nieces: Geraldine Allen and Christophene Harris of East Chicago, and Virginia (Paul) Duncan of Merrillville; many nieces and nephews too numerous to list; and special sisters-in-law: Leila Watkins and Elizabeth Watkins. Hugh transitioned from this life on November 21, 2010. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church, 4756 Melville Ave., East Chicago, IN with Rev. Rodney Golson, Pastor, officiating. Services entrusted to Hinton & Williams Funeral Home.
