SPRINGFIELD - Henry "Hank" Bassett, 86, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his home. He was born July 29, 1926, in Waterville, the son of Edson and Marie (Bailey) Bassett. He graduated from Cambridge High School in Jeffersonville, and served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Lorraine Dufresne in 1947, and they moved to Springfield in 1951. He worked at Fellows Corp. and S.R. Young, and retired in 1995. He was a former member of the Flying Eagles Coin Club, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 771, and the Springfield Lodge of Elks. Survivors include his wife Lorraine; three daughters, Patty O'Neill, Peggy Roux, and Nan Bassett; a son, William; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Edson Jr., and an infant daughter Mary Lou. At his request, he will be cremated and a graveside service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Springfield. The Rev. James Zaccaro will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA & Hospice of VT & NH, P.O. Box 976, White River Jct.,VT 05001. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
