Obituary of Helen Watkins


Helen Shipman Watkins, 71, of 132 Hopewell St., died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Seneca and was the daughter of George Dewey and Mary Elizabeth Jefferson Shipman. Her parents preceded her in death, and brothers, Vernon and Larry Shipman; Sisters, Nina Swaney, Hazel Ramey, Ruby Taylor, Margaret Singleton and Betty Burns. She was a member of Seneca Baptist Church and an active member of the "Ruth" Sunday school class. She was a loving nanny, wife, mother, neighbor and sister to all, she has entered the arms of the Lord and Savior. She knew she was going to heaven and did not fear the journey. She ne'r had an idle hand or missed an opportunity to do good for others. Waiting to meet her again is her surviving husband of 55 years, Bry Walter Watkins of the home. Daughters, Debbie and husband Mike Burton of Seneca, SC, Pam and husband Al Langston of Seneca, SC. Her brother, Gene Shipman of Seneca, SC. Sister, Ann Hall of Seneca, SC. Her grandchildren, Jennifer Burton, Laicie and Wil Langston. Brian & Chad Shipman were her special grand's, too. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at Seneca Baptist Church, with Dr. C. Von Reynolds and Rev. Ted Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. in the church parlor before the service. The family ask that memorials be made to Seneca Baptist Church Kindergarten Program, 1080 S.
