SARGENT Harold John, Jr., 68, of Woodland Park, NJ passed away on November, 6, 2014. "Hal" Sargent the loving husband of Elaine Altamura-Sargent, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He is survived by four sons and their spouses, Brent and Lisa Sargent, Kyle and Jennifer Sargent, Richard Altamura, MD and Anthony and Heather Altamura. He is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren, Luke, Avery, Zylie, Jillian, and Joseph. Hal's three sisters also survive him, Cathy Tanis, Cynthia Cheesman and Caron Sargent. Hal was born in St. Louis, MO, eventually coming east after his father completed medical school. Hal Jr, "Cappy" as he was known at the time, was quite the athlete and intellect; skipping two grammar school grades because the curriculum couldn't keep him engaged. Cappy excelled at baseball, skiing, tennis, scuba diving, horseback riding, football, but the sport most beloved was golf. As a young man Hal married Cheri Dickson and was blessed with two sons, Brent and Kyle. He started his professional career working for Avon, a job that took him and his young family to the Philippines for several years. Upon returning to the states, he left Avon and began a new journey into financial planning and wealth management for over 35 years founding the company Headquarters Advisory Group of Parsippany NJ. A member of several professional organizations one of which being International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy. This last endeavor was a perfect fit for his skills and temperament. During these 35 years, Hal's added to his family a wife, Elaine and two more sons, Richard and Tony. Hal certainly embodied the phrase work hard, play harder. Hal and Elaine had the opportunity to travel the world over. He was blessed with innumerable fabulous friends and business associates. His zest for life often demonstrated by the fun, noise and color followed him was unmatched. Loyalty, friendship, conviction of opinion, dedication and a competitive spirit were just some of his admirable traits. Perhaps, Frank Sinatra said it best, "he did it his way". No words can truly capture how much he will be missed! Funeral Monday 9 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 11 AM at the United Methodist Church at Newfoundland, 65 La Rue Rd., Newfoundland. Interment, Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Oak Ridge. Visiting Sunday 2-5 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1347 Perrineville Rd, Monroe Township, NJ 08831, in Hal's memory would be greatly appreciated. www.ShookFH.com
