Obituary of George Kaufman


George Kaufman, a former Bellmore resident who played bass guitar for The Nails, a 1980s rock band best known for the song "88 Lines About 44 Women," died Sunday at Westchester Medical Center after aneurysm surgery. He was 58.Born in New York City, Kaufman grew up in Bellmore and he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1968. He earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Mannes School of Music in Manhattan. He married Sharla Whitlock in 1984 and the couple settled in Port Chester, where they raised two children, Michael and Isabel, both 19.
