Obituary of George-Franklin Watters

DENTON, TEXAS George Franklin Watters, age 93, passed away on September 28, 2010, in Denton, Texas.He was born in New Amsterdam, Indiana on April 14, 1917, to the late Adaline and Ralph Watters. He was the second of five children. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pearl; his three children, Alice Marie and Jim Paxton, Louisville, KY, George Wayne and Nancy Watters, Orange Park, FL, and Colleen and Lane Pierce, Aubrey, Texas; his eight grandchildren, Mark Waterbury, KY, Vickie and Charles Lurker, KY, Christine Paxton, KY, Jessica Watters, NY, Brendan Watters, MD, Audra Litchfield, TX, Lori and Turner Armstrong, GA, and Ben Pierce, TX; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his sister Alice Kennedy, IN. Watters retired from the Army in 1963 after 23 years in service. He went on to work as a civilian for the military at Fort Campbell, KY. He then moved his family and worked as a bridge tender, retiring after 10 years from the State of Florida. Watters was very active as a Mason, contributing many hours to charity work with the Shriners of FL. Watters was a hobbyist carpenter who built many things, including a house and even a boat. He and Pearl traveled and lived all over the world, both with the military and for pleasure after retiring. George will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.Services will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 on Saturday October 9, 2010 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
