Obituary of George-Franklin James


93, a Verplanck resident, died on May 9, 2002 at the Bethel Nursing Center, Croton-on-Hudson. He was born on November 18, 1908 in the Town of Cortlandt, to Herbert and Lida L. Reynolds James. George worked for the Laborers Union Local #60 for 35 years retiring in 1970. He was in the US Navy from 1943-1945 during World War II and for several years after the war, he worked at Iona Island Depot. He was a man who made hard work look easy. He was an avid Yankees fan, and enjoyed his vegetable garden. On November 27, 1933 he married Florence Grace Zeiger. She died on January 8, 1998. George lived in Peekskill, Mohegan Lake, Montrose and Verplanck. He is survived by son George F. James of Verplanck, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Funeral Services will be held at the E.O. CURRY FUNERAL HOME, 313 North James Street, Peekskill, NY, on Saturday 10 am followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home (today) Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
