Obituary of Frederick-Corollas Dewilton-Gale

OBITUARY FREDERICK COROLLAS DEWILTON GALE Born July 4, 1924, in Montreal and died Sunday, October 29, 2006 peacefully at the Griffith McConnel Nursing Home after a year-long deterioration in his health, in his eighty-third year. Fred was predeceased by his wife Lillian Madden 17 years previously, and his only brother Thamas. He is survived by his four daughters and son, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. As a young man, Fred participated in World War II as he was eager to contribute to the war effort, as were other young men of his generation. He is a proud Veteran of that War and a lifelong member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #24106 which he supported unfailingly throughout his life. Fred lived for his work at which he excelled as a very young man, and became an expert in the casting of large industrial projects locally and internationally in the steel industry at the Canadian Steel Foundry (Hawker Siddley). Fred played an important role in CSF for over 50 years; that later extended into his post retirement years where he continued as a consultant to the steel industry. Fred took up golf in the early days when it started to become the popular past-time of the corporate world. He developed a passion for the sport and continued to play golf into his seventies along with his golfing buddies. Fred won his share of trophies along the way and belonged to a few Golfing Clubs in the pursuit of the sport. He sometimes would refer to Tiger Woods as his "grandson". Fred always supported his community and the Union United Church, situated in the heart of Little Burgundy, despite his various disagreements in principle from time to time. Fred also played an active role on the Council for Black Ageing. Fred lived his life on his terms and did not often share his interior life with those close to him. He will be missed. The family will receive friends at Feron's Funeral Homes Inc. 2630 Notre Dame Street West on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral service will take place on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Funeral Home. Interment Field of Honor, Pointe Claire, Qc. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Rev Charles Este Scholarship Fund will be gratefully appreciated. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 11/4/2006
