Obituary of Ernest-H. Wheeler


PLAINFIELD - Ernest Henry Wheeler, 103, of East Hill Road, died Thursday October 16, 2014, at the Canterbury Inn Assisted Living in St. Johnsbury. Born April 16, 1911, in Plainfield, he was the son of William and Della (Merrill) Wheeler and had attended Plainfield schools. He had never married. He grew up on a hill farm on East Hill Road and farmed with his father using only horses, which he continued to operate after his father's death until he was in his 90s. Ernie was a true Vermonter who loved to fish and hunt. There are no known survivors. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Eilene Bean, and her husband, Henry. The graveside and committal service to honor his life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier. There are no calling hours. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, is in charge of the arrangements.
