Obituary of Elizabeth-Bergin Hare


HARE Mrs. Elizabeth Bergin Hare, 91, of the Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, Shelton, CT, died on Monday, June 11, 2007. Born in Waterbury, CT on August 23, 1915, she was the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Blansfield Bergin. She was the widow of Richard (Dick) R. Hare. Betty and Dick, married 63 years, raised their family in Orange until 1975 when they retired to Florida and Southbury, moving to Shelton in 2003. Betty is survived by two sons, Richard Bergin and wife Emily of Ossining, NY, and John Clark and wife Kathleen of Doylestown, PA; two daughters Patricia Anne of Oakland, CA, and Nancy Jane Coffey and husband Dick, of Woodbridge, CT. Mrs. Hare was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Beth) Gade of Eldorado Hills, CA. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, Christopher Hare; Ryan, Shaughnessy, Liam, and Conor Hare; Kristin Gade and Leslie Tugade; Matthew and Elisa Cascardi; and Kate and Tricia Coffey, as well as one great granddaughter, Starlie Blythe Tugade. Mrs. Hare is also predeceased by her sister, Pat Bergin, and brother, John and his wife Eveline, all of Milford. Mrs. Hare attended Milford High School and went on to graduate from St. Francis School of Nursing, Hartford, with an RN degree. In 1981 she received the Red Cross Nurse Volunteer Award for over thirty years of service. Throughout her life she was active in the Orange Garden Club, spent many years as a part time school nurse in the Orange and Amity School systems, was a founding member of Paugusett Club in Orange and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her life centered around her extended family and close friends. Betty's spirit and determination will be missed. Friends may call on Wednesday (TODAY), June 13, from 4-7 p.m. at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford.
