Obituary of Dorothy-M. Wheeler


Dorothy M. Wheeler, 89, Palmetto, died March 27, 2006, at Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palmetto. She was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Atkinson, N.C., and came to Manatee County in 1946 from there. She retired as a bookkeeper with the Broward County School Board. She was a member of Concerned Women of America, the John Birch Society and Christian Coalition. She was an editorialist for the Bradenton Herald and was very politically active in the community and country. Survivors include a son, Donald of Palmetto; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Coalition of America, P.O. Box 37030, Washington, DC 20013; or to the John Birch Society, P.O. Box 8040, Appleton, WI 54912.
