Obituary of Dorothy-J. Wheeler


WHEELER Dorothy J. Wheeler, age 88, loving wife of 65 years to Gordon W. Wheeler of Benz Street, Ansonia, died peacefully at home Thursday, December 15, 2005. She was born June 24, 1917, in Ansonia, daughter of the late Felix and Valeria Sobolisky Bilsky. A graduate of Ansonia High School, Class of 1933, she worked as a secretary and stenographer for various Ansonia businesses. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and Golden Eaglet. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church of Ansonia and was a member of The Derby Senior Center and Derby Historical Society. In addition to her husband, Gordon, she is survived by two daughters, Carol Lugris and her husband, Andrew, of Monroe and Susan Laverty of Naugatuck; one sister, Elaine Holley of Southbury; three grandchildren, Chris Lugris, Leslie Laverty Beattie and John Laverty III; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 22 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 32 Jewett Street, Ansonia. Burial will be private. The Jenkins-King Funeral Home, 12 Franklin Street, Ansonia, is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church or to The Connecticut Hospice of Branford, 100 Double Beach Road, CT 06405 or to The Girl Scouts of America, 20 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT 06473.
