Charles A. Salerno, age 89, Inverness, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at his residence, under the loving care of his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, with military honors given by Inverness VFW Post #4337. The family will receive friends in visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home.Charles was born on April 2, 1921, in Manhattan, N.Y., to the late Giuseppi and Caroline Salerno. He came to this area 37 years ago from Staten Island, NY. He was a member of the Inverness Elks Lodge #2522. Charles was a pilot who enjoyed many venues in life such as woodworking and building HO trains from "scratch." He was an avid bass fisherman and a "die-hard" Miami Dolphins and Brooklyn Dodgers fan.His survivors include three sons, William Reilly, Staten Island, NY, Charles Salerno Jr. and wife Shirley, Staten Island, NY, Joseph and wife Joan Salerno, Brooklyn, NY; his daughter, Josephine Reilly, Inverness; his brother, Salvatore Salerno, Walkersville, MD; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Josephine, on 06/09/1994, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Reilly.
