Obituary of Catherine-Rose Payne

Catherine Rose Payne, 88, Port Charlotte, died Nov. 3, 2006. She was born July 4, 1918, in Clarksville, Ind., and came to the Charlotte County area last year from Berne, Ind. She and her husband managed the Carmel River Inn in Carmel, Calif., before retiring in the early 1990s. She was a supporting member of the American Humane Society and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Survivors include children Ruth Albert of Port Charlotte, Nicholas of Silverdale, Wash., Roy of Berne, Ind., and Victoria Ainsley of Ben Lomond, Calif.; a brother, Roy Smith of New Hope, Pa.; a sister, Martha McClellan of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Lutheran Church of the Cross. Kays-Ponger Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Punta Gorda Chapel, is handling local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 2300 Luther Way, Port Charlotte, FL 33983.
