Obituary of Bridgett-Whitlock Waters


Bridgett Whitlock Waters (Hale), 46, of Hastings, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. She was a native of Gainesville and a life-long resident of Hastings. She had co-owned and operated Hale's Food Store in Hastings for 26 years and was an avid member of the Fighting Gator Touchdown Club in Gainesville and a Gator Booster. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Mae Whitlock and a brother, James William Whitlock, III. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Billy Hale of Hastings; daughter and spouse, Penny and Justin Cumbo of Palatka; son, B.J. Hale, Jr. of Hastings; father, J.W. Whitlock of Hastings; granddaughter, Dacey Cumbo of Palatka; brothers, James Whitlock of Gray Station, Tenn., William Whitlock of Palatka, Robert Whitlock of Washington, D.C., Kevin Whitlock of St. Augustine, Michael Whitlock of Gainesville, Homer Murphy of Arcadia, Fla., and Buddy Whitlock of Sebring; sisters, Diane Purge of Moore Haven, Fla., Sandy Hayes and Susie Teeple, both of Sebring, Fla., Kathy Whitlock of Palatka, Cecelia Hale of Interlachen and Brenda Salmon of Merritt Island along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Hastings with The Rev. Doug Knight, officiating. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Flint Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Vinemont, Ala. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
