Obituary of Blanche-Tate Thomas

Retired Registered Nurse AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Blanche Tate Thomas, 89, of Evans, GA, wife of the late Robert Bernard Thomas, Sr. died Monday, March 28, 2005, at University Hospital. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 1, 2005 at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Hatfield and Rev. Berry Wren officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers include: Josh Thomas, Richard Pouge, Lewis Whittle, Kevin Wren, Allen Bradley and John Moretz. Mrs. Thomas went to nursing school in Amory, MS and spent her adult life in Augusta GA. She retired from University Hospital as Director of Adult Critical Care Nursing and was instrumental in opening the first intensive care/coronary care unit in Augusta. She was a long time active member of Trinity On The Hill United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Augusta Women's Club, a member of the American Heart Association, and she worked the First Aid Sta tion at the Augusta National during the Masters tournament for 28 years. Mrs. Thomas spent her entire life helping others and was the strength of her family. Survivors include two sons, Henry B. Thomas and wife Jody of Thomson, and Robert Bernard Thomas, Jr. and wife Kim of Augusta; two daughters, Mariann Bradley and husband Alden of Lawrence, KS, and Carol Schattscheider and husband Al of Monroe, WI; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday March 31, 2005 at Platt's Funeral Home in Evans, GA.
