Barbara Brown Thomas, 71, of Coalmont Court in Simpsonville, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006. Born in Laurens, she was the daughter of James E. Brown of Laurens and the late Myrtle G. Brown. She was retired from St. Francis Hospital as a lab technician due to multiple sclerosis. She is survived by her husband, Jim D. Thomas of Simpsonville; a daughter, Tracie Ann Barton of Greenville; a sister, Carolyn B. Childress and her husband, Curtis of Laurens; a brother, Joe K. Brown of Laurens; and two grandchildren, Joseph H. and Thomas Grant Barton. She was predeceased by a brother, Fred Earl Brown. She has donated her body to MUSC for multiple sclerosis research. A memorial service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the memorial service from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of South Carolina, 2712 Middleburg Dr. Suite 220, Columbia, SC 29204. The family in Laurens will be at the home of sister, Carolyn B. Childress, 1420 Fleming Mill Rd.
