Obituary of Barbara-Jean Thomas


BARBARA JEAN THOMAS NICHOLS - Barbara Jean Thomas, 73, of Nichols, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at home. Mrs. Thomas was born March 1, 1934 in Endicott, NY, to the late, Earl and Mamie Helen (Bogert) Slate. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George R. Thomas, Sr.; son, Daniel Thomas; granddaughter, Danielle Thomas; sister, Beverly Shirley. She is survived by three sons and four daughters-in-law, George, Jr. and Janice Thomas, Candor, Randy and Cindy Thomas, Oneida, Charles and Nanette Thomas, Nichols, Monica Thomas, Ithaca; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Randy Mallette, Butler, PA, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Leorah Slate, Romulus, NY; brother-in-law, Gerald Shirley, Candor; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Allen Memorial Baptist Church and the Candor American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She retired from Cornell University after 23 years of service. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Doughnut Makers Team at Owego Bowl. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Allen Memorial Baptist Church, 8 Church St., Candor, with the Rev. Donald Coole officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor, NY.
