Obituary of Barbara-E. Thomas

Barbara E. Thomas, 76, died April 14, 2009, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. She was born in Fairmont, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach for 57 years, coming from Elmer, N.J. She worked as a waitress in Vero Beach at Barrett's Steakhouse, Howard Johnson's for 20 years and Denny's for 17 years before her retirement in 2002. Survivors include her son, George W. "Possum" Hewitt Jr. of Vero Beach; daughters, Roseann Clayton, Vickie Kirkland, Sharon E. Wood and Tammy Thomas, all of Vero Beach; brother, Van Watkins of Fairmont, W.Va.; sister, Martha McFoy of Morgantown, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dana Raulerson. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 19 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A service will be at 10 a.m. April 20 at the funeral home with Chaplain Ken Jones officiating. Burial will be in Winter Beach Cemetery.
