Obituary of Andrew-Hugh Jackson

JACKSON Andrew Hugh Jackson, of Jacksonville, FL, died surrounded by his family. In his dying, as in his life, he was an example of grace, courage, strength, and Christian character. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be sadly missed. His smiling blue eyes, quick wit and loving spirit will remain in the memory of those who loved him so dearly. Andy earned college degrees from Auburn University and Webster University. Because of his love for God and his country, he served in the United States Navy for 24 years earning numerous awards and recognitions, retiring as Commander. He was Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of the VS-32 Maulers deployed on the USS America. He was an active member, usher and volunteer at Lakewood United Methodist. He enjoyed the fellowship of the 'Wednesday Gang' building houses for HabiJax, which was a highlight of his retirement. Andy is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Ruth Ann Fleming Jackson; children, Christy James, Carrie Jackson, and Jennifer Medure; precious grandchildren, Alyx, Charlie, and Grace, who will miss their 'Poppie,' and his sister, Sandra McKinnon. He is predeceased by his parents, Maxine and Lester Jackson of Wadley, Alabama. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 17th, in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17th in the Chapel of Lakewood United Methodist Church, 6133 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, 32217. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville FL 32257, or Lakewood United Methodist Church.
