Obituary of Andre Carignan

Andre Carignan April 15, 1929 – May 11, 2010 Peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Portage General Hospital, Andre Carignan of Elie Manitoba (formally of St. Eustache) passed away at the age of 81. Left to cherish his memory are his 4 children Gerald (Val), Marcel (Rita), Evelyn (Jerry Lepage) and Diane (Gordon Whitechurch), his 13 grand-children Stephan (Amanda), Nadine (Dean Bernardin), Brennan, Dominic, Maurice, Alexander, Victoria, Elijah, Monique (Dave Blanchard), Jean Paul (Miranda), Angeline, Jenifer (Jason Laramee), and Mitchell (Christie), his 3 great-grand-children Easton, Emme and Cohen; as well as his sister Florence (Marcel Valois), his in-laws Alfred (Diane) Picard, Henriette Lamoureux, Jeannette (George Bergeron), Denise (Rene Mollot) and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Valerie (Picard) in 1995, his parents Alphonse and Alma (Senecal), his sisters and their husbands Alphonsine (Edouard) Cyrenne, Cecile (Maurice) Duclos, Irene (Leon) Beaudry, Annette (Denis) Duclos as well as his in-laws Armand (Pauline) Picard, Cecile (Orius) Alarie and Omer Lamoureux. Andre was born in La Salle, Manitoba. The youngest and only son, he was well cared for by his 5 sisters. They moved to St. Eustache in 1931 where the family settled into farming. On August 9, 1951 he married Valerie Picard and together they settled on their farm where they raised their two sons and two daughters. He continued to farm with his sons. Through the years he was active on several committees including the St. Eustache Community Club, school trustee, 4-H woodworking leader, church council, town planning board and board director for the Elie Caisse Populaire. They moved in the town of St. Eustache where he resided until his 75th birthday. He was a resident of the Cartier Manor in Elie for the last 6 years where his door was always open for his many card games. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the St. Eustache Roman Catholic Church on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Father Isaïe Blanchette officiating. He will be put to rest immediately following the service along side his wife and parents in the the Carignan family plot. Together forever - toujours dans nos coeurs... Woelk and his staff with the paliative care team and to Dr. Kinnear and staff at the Portage Hospital medical ward for their very special care in the last month.
