She worked in Ottawa during the war years and married Gordon R. Wort in Halifax, NB on February 26, 1943. Alta returned to reside in Woodstock, NB in 1945 where she was a "stay-at-home mom" and an excellent cook and baker. Alta helped Gordon in his construction business until he became no longer self-employed in 1967. In their earlier years Alta and Gordon enjoyed skating skiing, swimming, hunting, travelling, rifle/pistol practice, collecting antiques, and attending horse shows. They travelled in most provinces and states either by plane or car as tourists or by pickup hauling registered Quarter horses and Aberdeen Angus cattle to horse/ cattle shows. Alta and Gordon were active members in the Canadian horse Show Association for many years and started the first horse club in Woodstock, NB in 1955-56. Alta used to assist her sons, Albert and Robert, getting prepared for competition in horse shows where they won many ribbons and trophies in Western Pleasure, English Dressage and Jumping Horse Show classes in the Maritimes. She also assisted Gordon when he acted as Judge in areas of New Brunswick. Alta had a terrific memory and could still remember all of the rules of the Horse Show Association, etc. until her passing. During the latter part of her life, Alta was a resident in the Carleton Manor, Woodstock but most Woostockers will remember Alta sitting on her front porch on Cambridge Street, weather permitting, visiting with her neighbours, watching the neighbourhood children playing, people hauling their gold clubs up the street, the walkers and some joggers. She will be sadly missed by her children, their spouses, three granddaughters, four great-grandsons, her neighbours and her Carleton Manor "Community". Rest in Peace, Mom/ Mama/ Mother/ Nana/ Nanny Wort. Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 1 PM to 3 PM.
