May 31, 2005 Alma Elizabeth Kelly Thomas, 83, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Concord, Florida, and has lived in Syracuse since 1963. Alma retired from Syracuse University after many years as acook, and she also worked as a home health aide. She was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church. Survived by her husband of 66 years, Turner Thomas; daughters, Susie Candle of Syracuse; Maggie Cooper of Jesup, GA; Eva Strickland of Toledo, OH; Minnie Jones of Buffalo, NY; and Bettie Campbell of Jesup, GA; sons: Frederick, Clarence and Gregory Thomas, all of Syracuse, and Jerome Thomas of Endicott, NY; sisters, Bessie Thomas of Havana, FL; Betty Gains of Buffalo; and Sahar Witherspoon of Jesup, GA; brothers, Johnny Kelly of Sanford, FL; and Lonnie Kelly and Ernest Smith, both of Havana, FL, and Charles King; 30 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. Calling Hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 S. Salina St. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
