Obituary of Allan Jackson

JACKSON, Allan Sutherland Born November 21, 1922, passed away peacefully in his 89th year with his sons at his side at Queensway Carleton Hospital on May 20, 2011, when his heart finally decided that it had worked long enough. Beloved husband of nearly 67 years of Valerie Evelyn Jackson (nee Frosdick), and father of John David Allan (Maureen, nee Caza) and Eric Bruce (Catherine, nee Magwood). Outstanding and doting grandfather to Matthew Eric, Rebecca Sue Westgarth (Robert), Hannah Valerie and Rachel Maureen Jackson. Overjoyed great-grandfather of Daphne Maureen Westgarth. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer Allan and Anna Olive (nee Sutherland) and by his brothers William, Lorne and Omar. Loved and respected by his brothers Keith and Robert Bruce. Allan served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer with overseas duty in 1944-45 during World War Two, flying Spitfires and Hurricanes. He was a retired senior taxation officer with the Ministry of Revenue, Government of Ontario. Allan was an outgoing and engaging man, interested in people and what they were about. He brought a great sense of humour and a genuine interest to his dealings with people of all ages. His love of travel with friends took him by caravan and motor home to much of North America and resulted in the creation and enjoyment of many long term friendships. He had a life-long love of automobiles, formed as a result of his father's Ford dealership and his own time as a Ford dealer in Wheatley and then Leamington, Ontario. Later in life he renewed his enthusiasm for golf, a game which he mastered mostly by ignoring unsuccessful shots. His infectious laugh, quick wit, love of teasing those dear to him and his genuine enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of his company. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion and of Kanata United Church. A Heartfelt thanks to Lynn and Dr. S. Litwin for their compassionate involvement in Allans healthcare. Friends will be received at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Tuesday, May 24 from 2 p.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 4 p.m. which would have been the 67th anniversary of his wedding to the love of his life, Valerie. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allan's memory can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
