<!-- FH = Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown -->Allan Evert "Andy" AndersonGreenvilleAllan Evert "Andy" Anderson, 92, of Greenville, husband of the late Martha Bee Anderson, died on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at NHC Mauldin. Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, on October 20, 1919, he was the son of the late David Ferdinand Anderson and Emmy Alfreda Bengtsson.He was a 1941 graduate of the New York School of Forestry at Syracuse University and worked with the US Forest Service in the Plumas National Forest near Quincy, CA. During WWII he served in the US Army Air Corps at several bases including Rock Hill, SC. His training battalion was quartered in Bancroft Hall at Winthrop College where he met his future wife, Martha Bee Anderson, who predeceased him in 2009. They were married while he was at OCS at Ft. Belvoir, VA prior to his "shipping out" to the Philippines in 1945. After WWII he resided in Hampton, SC and became Regional Sales Marketing Specialist for Westinghouse Micarta Division in Hampton. In 2001 he moved to Greenville, SC to be with family. In Hampton, he and his wife were founding members of All Saints Episcopal Church and helped move the church building from Lawtonville, SC to its present site in Hampton. At All Saints he was a Lay Reader, Senior Warden and Diocesan representative. He and his wife were also communicants of Christ Church, Greenville, SC and members of the Board of Visitors of Kanuga Conference Center near Hendersonville, NC.A past Boy Scoutmaster for the Hampton Troop, Andy also was a founding member of the Hampton County United Way, as well as former president of the Hampton Rotary Club, former Commander of the American Legion Post 108 in Hampton, SC. After retirement from Westinghouse Corporation he was Executive Director of the Hampton County Disability Board and Palmetto Development Center. During his tenure on this board he facilitated the design and construction of the residential care facility at the Palmetto Development Center in Hampton County. He is survived by son, Carl E. Anderson M.D., and his wife Maryanne Van Leer Anderson of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Annie Elizabeth Anderson, Ashley Bee Anderson, John Alexander West Anderson, and Emily Caroline Anderson, all of Greenville. Other surviving family are Karin Eckerdahl, Bengt Bengtsson, Siv Bengtsson, Bertil Karlsson, Inga Kristenson of Sweden and Inga and Paul Walberg of Norway.Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 511 Jackson Avenue East, Hampton, SC 29924; Christ Church Episcopal, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601; YMCA Camp Greenville, PO Box 390 Cedar Mountain, NC 28718; Kanuga Conferences, Inc., PO Box 250, Hendersonville, NC 28793; American Legion Post 108, 604 4th Street, Hampton, SC 29924; and Hampton Cemetery, c/o Maxie Lee Harper, 603 4th Street West, Hampton, SC 29924.A funeral service will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal Markley Chapel with visitation following in the Arrington Room.The family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, SC 29924.A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Hampton Cemetery.Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.thomasmcafee.comThomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
