Obituary of Albert-A. Gooley


ALBERT A. GOOLEY of BinghamtonAlbert A. Gooley, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday morning, February 27, 2001, at the Vestal Nursing Center. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Olga Gooley, Binghamton; a son, Drew and his wife Connie Gooley, Owego; a daughter, Mary Kay Summermatter, Williamsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jody and his wife Michelle Gooley, Tracy and her husband Andy Savo, Paul and his wife Lorissa Summermatter; six great-grandchildren, Max, Evelyn, Grant and Lydia Summermatter, and Halle Morgan and Ashley Gooley. He was a member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He was a retired employee of the G.A.F. Corporation, Binghamton. He was a Marine Corps pilot of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre and attained the rank of Major in the Reserves following the war. He was a member of the Joseph P. Mangan American Legion Post #1194, Hillcrest. Funeral services will be held Friday 9 a.m., at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect St., Binghamton, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St., John's Parkway, Johnson City, with Rev. Stephen Hutnick, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Broome County Veterans Memorial Association. Rev. Hutnick will conduct a prayer service Thursday 3 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions in Al's memory to his church.
