Obituary of Alan-Norman Anderson

ALAN NORMAN ANDERSON Alan Anderson, 74, of Devlin, Ont., passed away suddenly on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005. He was born April 21, 1933 at the Cuthbertson Nursing Home in Devlin to Axel and Ivah Anderson of Box Alder, Township of Devlin. Alan was educated in the area and lived in Box Alder all his life, except for a few years when he worked in Manitoba as a young man. On Aug. 6, 1952, he was united in marriage with Inez Mose of Emo, Ont. At this time, he took over the home farm that had been homesteaded by his grandfather, George Strachan, in 1896. This always was a source of pride to Alan. He began work at the Fort Frances paper mill (Mando) after his marriage and worked there until his retirement in 1989. During these years, Alan also maintained the family farm as he always had a love of the land. Alan’s retirement brought many enjoyable things, such as hunting, fishing, and living at the lake in the summers. The family played a large part in these activities. Alan also began a hobby or career at carving ducks and other waterfowl. He won many awards and prizes across the country from California to Toronto. His wonderful work is well-known locally. Alan was predeceased by his parents; an infant brother, William; and two great-granddaughters, Brittney Grace and Anjolina Marie. He is survived by his wife, Inez; daughter, Linda Madigan (Mark) of Toronto, Ont., sons, Dan, Doug (Tammy), and Kevin, and daughter, Kathy, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew), Lee, Ian (Juanita), Marlo, Justin, Janda (Adam), Jamara (Trevor), Alexis, Katie (Jeff), Morgan, Jared, Zachary, Macey, and Dean; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Eric (Janet) of North Battleford, Sask.; two sisters, Elizabeth Donaldson (Gale) of Emo, Ont., and Marion Poutanen (Ralph) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews. Alan will be greatly missed by family friends and community. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial gathering will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Devlin Hall in Devlin. If friends desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 920 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N4 or the charity of your choice.
