Obituary of Alice-Elizabeth-Wiggins Farmer

FARMER, ALICE ELIZABETH WIGGINS - died on December 25, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She was a long-time resident of Clinton, where she was dearly loved. When she was in good health Alice was very active in her community and in her church. After retirement she and her late husband, Jim, were instrumental in establishing a benevolence ministry at Second Baptist Church. This ministry helped countless people in need of food, clothing, rent or electric bill assistance and almost any need of the people in Clinton and the surrounding area. Alice often said that the benevolence ministry was her calling; that this was God's purpose in her life. She recognized the dignity of everyone, no matter what their economic status happened to be, or their race or their ethnicity. All were God's beloved children in her eyes. She was welcomed to heaven by her devoted husband of 63 years, James M. (Jim) Farmer, Sr.; her son, James M. Farmer, Jr. (also known as Woody); her parents George Simpson and Minnie Mae Earwood Wiggins; her brothers George Welton Wiggins and Earl Wayne Wiggins and her sisters Martha Francis Wiggins Hickman and Mary Geraldine Wiggins Harris.Left to celebrate her memory are her daughter, Kathy Farmer (Kim Heidebrecht) of Waldorf, MD; her son Randy Farmer of Clinton; her grandson Devin Farmer (Stacy) of Clinton; her granddaughter Lindsey Kennedy (Nik) of Cookeville; her great grandsons Brayden and Blake Kennedy; her great granddaughter Lauren Farmer; her sister Josephine Kelly; her brother Bob Wiggins; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and her special friends Faye Parks and Connie Davis. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 777 Public Safety Lane in Clinton with a celebration of her life immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Alice's favorite charity, Second Harvest of East Tennessee, or to the Second Baptist Church Benevolence Ministry or to the Pat Summitt Foundation. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home assisted the Farmer family.
