->Hegan, William Parke and Joan TroeschWilliam Parke Hegan(Oct. 21, 1926-Feb. 26, 2013) Joan Troesch Hegan(March 22, 1937-April 12, 2013)William and Joan Hegan, an extraordinary couple who demonstrated the true meaning of love and devotion, have passed away after a lifetime of dedication to one another and their family. Bill and Joan were in their 50th wedding anniversary year, and passed away within 6 weeks of each other.Bill was born in White Plains, NY on October 21, 1926 to William Parke Hegan Sr., and Carolyn Miller Hegan. Bill graduated from White Plains High School at the age of 16. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and completed basic training at Fort Riley, KS. He later attended Princeton University, studying Civil Engineering in a U.S. government-sponsored World War II training program. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (cavalry) in 1945, he served in post-war Germany at age 20 as the Commander of a regional constabulary force. Bill was recalled to duty as a First Lieutenant in 1951 and was sent to Korea as a forward reconnaissance platoon leader with the 70th Tank Battalion, First Cavalry Division, receiving the Korea Ribbon with two battle stars. He eventually retired as a Captain (Armor). After leaving active duty, Bill earned a BA from New York University (NYU), majoring in Retailing. He was awarded a Fellowship in Retail Research and later earned his Master in Business Administration from NYU in 1953.Bill worked for many years in New York City and Los Angeles for Ohrbach's Inc., a specialty clothing retailer. In 1960, he joined International Business Machines, where he was a three-time member of the IBM "Hundred Percent Club," and received an IBM Outstanding Contribution Award for work he did to develop a Retail Simulation Program.Joan was born in New York, NY on March 22, 1937 to August and Bertha Hauschildt Troesch. During her early childhood, Joan resided in the Yorkville area of Manhattan. From 1948 to approximately 1954, Joan lived at the Wartburg Orphans' Farm School in Mount Vernon, NY. Joan received diplomas from Edison Vocational and Technical High School in Mount Vernon, NY and Wood Secretarial School in New York City. She was employed by IBM for many years as an executive secretary in New York City. After working in the same IBM office as Bill for several years, Joan was transferred to a new location in 1962. Bill quickly acted on the opportunity to ask out the prettiest girl he knew. Bill and Joan were married in Kingston, NY on September 21, 1963.In 1964, Bill resigned from IBM, and, with Joan's support, founded Time Brokers Inc., which brokered computation time on mainframe computers to customers who could not afford to purchase their own computer equipment. In the mid-1970s, the business was renamed Computer Merchants Inc., and began to sell and lease large, mainframe computers. The company's offices were located in Chappaqua, NY for many years. Bill retired from Computer Merchants in 1991 and he and Joan embarked on a twenty-year retirement adventure.Bill and Joan were longtime residents of Mt. Kisco, NY, living there from 1970 to 2009. For nearly 40 years, Joan and Bill were also the owners of a Berkshires-area farmstead in Cummington, MA. In 2009, Joan and Bill moved to Camarillo, CA to be closer to their children, Kirsten Hegan Detrick and Wm. Scott Hegan; their grandchildren, Wm. Hadley Detrick, Lucie Parke Detrick and Amelia Lanfrankie; and their children's spouses, Herbert H. Detrick and Ginger Powell.Joan and Bill exemplified the true meaning of love, loyalty and kindness, and they are missed greatly.A memorial service for Joan and Bill will be held on Sunday May 19, 2013 at 3:00PM at Monte Vista Presbyterian Church, 3797 West Lynn Road, Newbury Park, CA (805) 498-8213.
