<!-- FH = PURCELL FUNERAL HOME -->FURLONG, William Frederick "Fred," 80, of Tampa, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, in Tampa. He was born to Charles and Jean Jeanette Brundridge and was adopted by Walter and Virginia Furlong when he was 3 days old. He was born September 27, 1930, in Sulphur Springs, Fla. Mr. Furlong served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea. He worked for Seaboard Railroad, later Seaboard/ Coastline Railroad, for 46 and a half year, then retired from CSX Railroad. Mr. Furlong was a member of United Transportation, Union Local 1221. He was a Mason and a member of Fellowship Lodge 265 F&AM. He is survived by his wife of 50 years., Sybil Revels Furlong of Tampa; son, Gregory W. Furlong; grandsons, Jarrett and Derek Furlong; grand-daughter, Lacy Furlong; and great-granddaughters, Jillian and Jelcee Furlong, all of Webster. His favorite Bible verses were; 2 Tim. 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith;" and Eccl. 3:1-2, "There is a time for everything a time to be born and a time to die." Fred enjoyed fishing and hunting for most of his life. In recent years, he enjoyed swinging in his backyard. Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Linden Cemetery. Pastor Marvin Strickland will preside. All past and present railroad employees are welcome to serve as honorary pallbearers. Online condolences may be left at www.purcellfuneralhome.com.
