Callahan, William D. MENANDS William D. Callahan, 89, of Brooksville, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany, N.Y. Bill was the loving son of the late William and Agnes (Marchand) Callahan. He was predeceased by his wife, LaVerne with whom he spent 43 years of marriage, and his son, William who passed away in 2001. His only brother, Donald was killed in action over Indonesia in 1944. He is survived by his loving and caring partner, Miriam Dunkerley of Menands, N.Y. and Brooksville, Fla. Additionally, he is survived by his devoted children, Janet Chappel and husband Larry of Cape Cod, Mass., Daniel Callahan and wife JoAnn, Scott Callahan and wife Joan, all of Mesa, Ariz., and his daughter-in-law, Mary Callahan of Dyer, Ind. He was cherished by his grandchildren, Gavin Chappel, Andrea Chappel Frank, Daniel Callahan, Elizabeth Callahan, Timothy Callahan, Lisa Callahan, William Callahan, Jillian Callahan, Amy Callahan and Zachary Callahan and great-granddaughters, Emma and Madison Frank. Bill spent his early years as an active member of the Chicago Paulist Choir where he frequently performed as a soloist. He worked as a model for the American Dairy Association before World War II. During the war, Bill proudly served on the Pacific front in the US Navy. He and his wife, LaVerne raised their family in the Chicago area before retiring to Fla. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 75 Whitehall Rd., Albany, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany Tuesday, prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment in Florida Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors will take place in Brooksville, Fla. at the convenience of the family.
