William Doyce Barnett, age 74, of Elgin, Ala., died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, after an extended illness. The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Twin Oaks Funeral Home chapel at 10 a.m. Visitation was Friday night at the funeral home.Burial will be in Thornton Cemetery, Rogersville.Survivors include his wife, Betty Doris Barnett; one son, Rick Barnett of Decatur; two daughters, Regina Putman, Anderson, Ala., Tonya Rene Bird, Florence, Ala.; one sister, Edelene White of Florence; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Marion Barnett; a brother, C.J. Barnett; an infant son and infant daughter.Pallbearers include Bobby Barnett, Ronnie Barnett, Benjamine Barnett, Andrew Barnett, Tyan Makee and Justin Makee.Officiating at the funeral will be Brother Audie Bogus.He was a veteran of the Army and served as a military policeman. He was also a member of Springfield Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Hospice of the Shoals and the Elgin Fire Department.The family wishes a special thanks to the Hospice of the Shoals and to Rebecca Curtz and Debbie Cullum.Twin Oaks Funeral Home, Rogersville, is directing.
