NIELSEN, Thomas Robert 87, passed away peacefully Aug. 17, 2013 after a long struggle with Parkinson's. He was born in Atlanta, GA the son of Hartman & Louise Nielsen. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guam for 2 years. He graduated from RFA in Rome, New York and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utica College. He worked at Rome Cable Corporation for 30 years before retiring. He served as President of the Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed serving as a Cub Master for the Cub Scouts. He and his wife permanently moved to Seminole, Florida in 2008. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seminole. He and his wife loved to travel and made many trips to Australia with side trips to New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, and Tasmania. He leaves a wife, Betty Urtz Nielsen; two sons, Terry in Lakeville, MN and Christopher in Maidens, VA; and a daughter, Lynn Parsons in Brighton, Australia. He also leaves 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Association or the Veterans Memorial Fund. A memorial mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Chapel, 66 Ave., Seminole on Saturday, Aug. 24th at 10 am.
