Avis de décès de Thomas-E. Sargent

Thomas E. Sargent SOUTH PORTLAND - Early Sunday morning, Aug. 1, the Lord called Tom Sargent, 76, to Heaven, where he was greeted with big hugs from his mother, father, brother, and many family ancestors. Tom Sargent was born in Augusta, ME, the fifth child of Ray Sr. and Margaret Sargent, following William (now deceased), Ted Sargent (husband of Betty of Somerville NJ), Ray Sargent (husband of Anita of Santa Barbara, CA,), and Mary Brettner of Clearwater, FL. While he was never an official father, as he was never married or had any children of his own, he held a constant, quiet presence of friendship and stewardship in many people's lives, especially his many nieces and nephews. As such, Tom was a father figure and confidant to many people, especially his adoring nieces and nephews. He was just a lovable guy with an easy, approachable, selfless nature. In 1947, Tom received a $225 clarinet and it was his musical partner for his entire life. He was always a member of a band and his last performance was with the Auburn Community Orchestra. Tom graduated from St. Michael's College in Canada in 1954, where he excelled in Russian Studies but Latin not so much. He dedicated much of his life to publishing a book on the era of Stolypin by a professor of his at St. Michael's College, L.I. Strakhovsky, which was finally published last year. An employee performance review from 1957 described Tom as an outstanding employee with the sentence "I wish all of my employees worked like Tom." He was known to the Becky's Community as "Skim Milk Tom," where he will be missed. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Visitation will be 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville, NJ, with interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ. Arrangements under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland, ME. Condolences to the family may be shared at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
